I recently had the opportunity to talk to a CF Mommy about some of the foods she tried with her 18 year old son who has Cystic Fibrosis. She mentioned some of the foods I already knew and used, but then surprised me by saying "Liverwurst is the best".
Whaaaaat?
She explained that it was basically just fat and salt. The perfect go-to protein food for CFers.
Well, okay then. My baby eats just about everything so I thought this would be easy. I nabbed a tube of the stuff from the grocery store and couldn't wait to watch Avie scarf it down straight from the wrapper.
Nope.
She HATED it. I always taste everything I give my baby, and I actually didn't think it was that bad. But no matter how I tried to convince her, she just wasn't having it.
So, I made it my mission to try and get her to eat the stuff.
A couple of meals later, I tried to hide it in a quesadilla. Everything is better with cheese, right? However, after a couple eager bites she realized there was something different about her favorite food and stopped eating it!
But I didn't let that deter me either. I grabbed a frying pan and threw some bacon in.... then I removed the strips, and plopped a chunk of liverwurst right into the greasy pan. Dump a couple eggs on top and scrambled the crap out of it all.
Eureka, right? Well, not really. She did eat some of it but she wasn't as fired up as I had hoped.
And so begins mission: Make Avie Love Liver! ... and I won't stop until I hear her say, "more liver please, mommy!"
