When I start to worry about Avie's future, I find comfort in knowing that programs are available for us.
Avie is still young, but I'm connected enough to know that CF patients can have a tough time living "normal" lives. Their health issues (hospital stays or not) take them out of school frequently enough to make passing classes and graduating quite difficult. Not to mention the financial burdens that come along with this disease, which can make paying for tuition a huge challenge... and not just for the CF patient, but also for siblings and/or parents who are trying to earn a degree.
But it's nice to know that there are companies around who focus on helping those in the CF community achieve their dreams. And guess what? One of those happens to be the same company that's leading the way in researching treatments for Cystic Fibrosis: Vertex Pharmaceuticals.
As if we didn't already love Vertex, right?! Their All In for CF Scholarships program helps offset costs of attending college for CF patients and immediate family members who want to earn a 2 year, 4 year or graduate degree. And we're not just talking about a few scholarships a year, folks- for the 2018-2019 school year, they've awarded 80 (EIGHTY!) scholarships.
Doesn't it make you want to huge someone in a lab coat?
Check out the link attached here again and take some time to read through the bios of some of the scholarship recipients. You will be so proud of their strength and love for their families (and you might want to grab a tissue).
Remember, if you're searching for Vertex's main page, its VRTX.com.
