Sausage Gravy

September 28, 2017

I've never had an urge to order biscuits and gravy for breakfast, but my Mom loves this country-style comfort food.  I will say that the restaurant stuff never compares to the recipe my Mom uses at home.  Sometimes when she makes an egg breakfast, she will make a yummy sausage gravy to pour over skillet-fried potatoes.

She actually whipped up this morning meal for Avie the last time she and my Dad watched her overnight.  I got the report back that Avie scarfed it down and asked for more.  So naturally, I was sent home with the leftovers when I picked my child up later that day.

I feel like sausage gravy is a kind of food you can really eat any time of the day.  So, I whipped up some mashed potatoes (with whole-milk, butter and salt, of course) and poured the gravy over the top.

Oh. My. Lord.

Girl wouldn't stop eating!

Alright, Mom, what's that recipe?

I just get a package of country style pork sausage. The brand doesn't matter, It just needs to be ground sausage. Not the link. Brown it like you would ground beef. When it's all browned, sprinkle in flour and stir. Keep adding flour until all the grease is soaked up and the meat looks dull. Then add milk and stir frequently, to be sure it doesn't get clumpy, until it starts to boil. Turn the heat down, add some Worcestershire sauce. Cook until thickened, stirring occasionally. I don't measure anything - sorry. But it's really easy

You can make a little "comfort bowl" with potatoes, sausage gravy and cooked green beans, like I did.  Or bake up some biscuits and drown those suckers!
