I can't take credit for this activity... but I WILL take credit for sharing the information with you.
I had read about this on screenfreeparenting.com but didn't put it to use until the other day. Then I kicked myself for not trying it sooner.
What am I talking about, you ask??
This particular idea is based on the montessori way of learning/teaching. I don't know a ton about that topic, so I will let you explore on your own. But this article gives some fun ways to play with water, other than just pouring it from one cup to the next... which is what I had Avie do.
I've mentioned before that I don't have a yard. We have a deck and a front porch. So, when Avie is jonesing for some sunshine but I don't have the energy to go to the park, I have to get a little creative.
Historically, I've had her play with bubbles. Then she got some toy trucks and has filled them with river rocks from our planters.... and dumps them all over the place.
The water activity was great though! She was soaking wet, and beyond hydrated from drinking half of it, but the best part was that I got some time to myself! I just sat at the computer, with a straight-shot view of her little tsunami corner.
If your kiddo gets bored with the water and wants to come inside for some more screen-free activities, check out this fun list of things to do.
